Terms and Conditions for 30x30 UK

Effective Date: 9 June 2025

Version: 1.0

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern participation in the Pathway Membership programme operated by 30x30 United Kingdom CIC, a community interest company registered in England and Wales (company number: 16333993), with its registered office at 8 Redlands Lane, Broadwindsor, Beaminster, England, DT8 3ST (“30x30 UK”, “we”, “our”, or “us”).

By applying to or participating in the Pathway Membership programme, you (“Member”, “you”, or “your”) agree to comply with these Terms.

1. Purpose of Pathway Membership

1.1. 30x30 UK exists to help restore nature across the UK, in line with the national target to protect and restore 30% of land and sea by 2030.  The Pathway Membership is designed as an introductory engagement for businesses that want to align their operations with nature and support this goal.

1.2. Pathway Membership is not an accreditation, certification, or guarantee of environmental performance, and should not be represented as such. It is an entry point for businesses to begin their journey towards nature-positive action.

2. Eligibility

2.1. Pathway Membership is available to legally operating businesses in the UK that:

  • Are taking or interested in taking steps to align with nature,

  • Commit to engaging honestly and constructively with 30x30 UK,

  • Do not operate in sectors or activities fundamentally misaligned with the mission and values of 30x30 UK, as set out in our published Mission Statement and Sector Exclusion Policy.

2.2. 30x30 UK reserves the right, acting reasonably and in good faith, to refuse or revoke membership at its sole discretion if a business:

  • Operates in, derives significant revenue from, or is directly supporting industries that are inherently and unavoidably harmful to ecosystems, public trust, or the integrity of the nature restoration movement, including but not limited to:

    • Fossil fuel extraction and processing, including oil, gas, coal, and tar sands

    • Industrial-scale animal agriculture, especially operations with significant impacts on land, water, or biodiversity

    • Deep-sea bottom trawling and unsustainable fishing practices

    • Mining and mineral extraction with high environmental impact

    • Deforestation-linked activities, including unsustainable timber, palm oil, or soy production

    • Agrochemical manufacturing, including pesticide/herbicide producers with known biodiversity harms

    • Industrial water bottling or diversion causing ecological disruption

    • Manufacturers of single-use plastics, particularly where alternatives are viable

    • High-emissions aviation or shipping, particularly without active decarbonisation plans

    • Tobacco and vaping industries, due to public health and environmental harms

2.3. This list is non-exhaustive. 30x30 UK retains the right to assess prospective or current Members’ alignment with its mission based on:

  • The nature and scale of the business’s environmental impacts,

  • The absence of credible action or public commitments to reduce harm,

  • The risk to public trust in the integrity of the 30x30 UK initiative.

2.4. Businesses with a complex profile (e.g.  mixed revenue sources or legacy issues) are welcome to reach out for a case-by-case discussion.  Applications demonstrating clear intent, transparency, and good-faith transition plans may be considered.

2.5. Where membership is refused or revoked, the applicant may request a written explanation and, if desired, a review by a designated panel or committee.  All decisions will be made reasonably and in good faith.

3. Membership Benefits

3.1. Pathway Members may receive:

  • Access to expert-led UK nature restoration projects (subject to availability and at the sole discretion of 30x30 UK),

  • Participation in employee volunteering opportunities (extra fees may apply),

  • Invitations to flagship quarterly webinars,

  • General communications guidance and shared storytelling content.

3.2. Access to benefits is not guaranteed and may be limited, varied, or withdrawn at any time without liability.

3.3. No badge, logo, or visual mark is granted to Pathway Members. Pathway Membership does not confer certification, verification, or endorsement by 30x30 UK.

4. Membership Contributions

4.1. Pathway Membership operates on a pay-what-you-can basis, with a minimum suggested contribution of £20 per month for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

4.2. Large businesses and enterprise-level organisations are asked to contact 30x30 UK directly to discuss a tailored contribution appropriate to their size and capacity.

4.3. All contributions support programme delivery and are non-refundable, except where required by law.  This non-refundable nature will be clearly communicated at the point of payment.

4.4. Failure to make a contribution may result in suspension or termination of membership at 30x30 UK’s discretion.

4.5. 30x30 UK reserves the right to update pricing guidance periodically to reflect programme needs or inflation, but will provide reasonable notice to existing Members.

5. Use of the 30x30 UK Name

5.1. Pathway Members may refer to themselves in writing as a “Pathway Member of 30x30 UK”, provided:

  • The reference is accurate and not misleading,

  • It is clearly distinguished from any certification or endorsement,

  • It is not used in a way that implies verified environmental performance.

5.2. Members must not use any badge, logo, or graphic mark of 30x30 UK unless separately licensed and approved in writing.

5.3. 30x30 UK may monitor public references to its name and materials and may review any materials referencing the programme.  Members must promptly comply with any request to edit or remove materials if messaging is deemed misleading, overstated, or incompatible with our standards.

5.4. Members agree to indemnify and hold harmless 30x30 UK from any claims, losses, or damages arising from unauthorised or misleading use of the 30x30 UK name or materials.

6. Greenwashing and Misrepresentation

6.1. Members must not:

  • Overstate or falsely imply the scale or impact of their contribution,

  • Suggest that membership constitutes verification or environmental leadership,

  • Use participation to distract from environmentally harmful practices.

6.2. 30x30 UK defines greenwashing as any misleading or exaggerated claim about environmental action, or use of the Pathway Membership to imply compliance with standards that are not met.

6.3. 30x30 UK will reasonably investigate any allegations of greenwashing or misrepresentation before taking action. Members will be provided with notice and an opportunity to respond to any such allegations prior to suspension or termination, except in cases of urgent reputational risk.

6.4. 30x30 UK reserves the right to suspend or terminate membership in cases of greenwashing, reputational harm, or breach of these Terms.

7. Data and Confidentiality

  • Indirect, incidental, or consequential losses,

9.3. Members agree to indemnify and hold harmless 30x30 UK from any claims, losses, or damages arising from their breach of these Terms or misuse of the 30x30 UK name or materials.
